About Living the Special Needs Life

Welcome!  I’m Mara.  I am so glad that you are here! We were blessed in 2012 with our amazing son, Kai. Kai has PVL (periventricular leukomalacia), Duplicate Chromosome 16, Apraxia, Coprophagia, SPD, is probably autistic and is delayed in all areas. He is also a happy, bright, beautiful boy who makes everyone around him smile. Kai enjoys music, singing, dancing, computers, swimming and water play.  He also likes ABCs, counting and holding on to anything that is knitted or crocheted. Kai loves to be affectionate. He is also just beginning to talk and every day is full of surprises. This is a HARD road, but we are doing it and you can too. As a mom, I know that I need support and fresh ideas. During 15 years as a general education teacher I attended many IEP meetings for students. I learned so much about different kinds of special needs kids and what they need at home and at school.  I then obtained my certification in special education just to be more knowledgeable for Kai. I want to be (and want this blog to be) a resource for anyone who needs or wants one. Come join us. Share what you know and ask questions. I am so glad that you are here!
